LET'S BRING WHAMMY BARS TO CIGAR BOX GUITARS!Classic 1960's Teisco-style vibrato tailpiece with extra long trem arm. Keep us posted, I'd like to see another Teisco saved especially a shark fin.Item: 172267524041 1960's Teisco Del Rey-style Chrome Vibrato Tailpiece Whammy Bar Tremolo Arm. You could see about changing the saddles to ones without multiple slots. Not often but it would happen, I just chalked it up to being a vintage Japanese guitar. I had the same problem with my other all original K2L with the strings sometimes slipping into one of the other little slots on each of the saddles. Joe Desperado on here built me a killer neck so if he's up for another build I would contact him. The neck I'd say try to save it if it's doable but if not throw it up for sale and see if someone will pay for vintage and spend it on your project. I liked the Gotoh tuners I put on mine and they looked old school. Haven't looked in a couple years so they probably have more stuff now. They have the repro bars, springs, nameplates, pickup switch covers and all kinds of stuff. You could always make a tail piece in the shape of the old one but without the cup and bar so it has the old style but makes it a hard tail.Īs I said, EZPZ is a great source for teisco stuff, check out their ebay store or email them. I posted about finding a cup awhile back and it was suggested I try a telecaster jack cup, which I did and it was not a perfect fit but would have done the job. I doubt you will find a cup by itself but EZPZ sells repro springs and bars.

If there's not enough break angle, maybe shim the neck and raise the bridge a little. I don't know why the E string would pop off the bridge. The biggest help would be to send links to specific replacement parts if you know of them, because I can't find anything!įor a player, I'd do a careful assessment of the overall condition of the neck and truss rod function before anything else. So, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Overall, I love the look of this thing and the tone of the pickups is unreal. Here's a good example of an all original: The high E keeps falling off the bridge on bends The neck isn't great (nut is horrendous, frets are worn, and there are some nicks all over). The tuners suck and one isn't original (it looks like regular Gibson-style replacements might fit, but not sure) Could I find the original set up? If so, is it even quality? Is there another setup that would play better and would cover that? The vibrato was removed at some point and a pretty big hole is left behind.

The big question is: Do I upgrade to higher quality parts, or try for a full restore?Įither way, here's what needs improvement for play-ability:

It has some issues and I'm hoping for some guidance on how to improve it. I recently acquired this pretty nifty guitar, a Silvertone KL-4/ Teisco ET-460. I've been doing a ton of research, to no avail so far, but in doing so, I came across your fine community and I must say, wow, you all are incredible.
